About

For ‘Spit Shine’, the second music video from Foo Fighters’ album ‘Your Favorite Toy’, the band elected for a mixture of performance and horror.

Filmed in the areas surrounding their Studio 606 compound and directed by Dave Grohl the treatment for the video involved the band performing the track before being attacked by some kind of zombie-like creatures.

The video starts with a spoof “Civil Danger Alert”, suggesting that the band and anyone else should seek shelter from a “viral outbreak” that is “potentially lethal”. The band are seen performing before it cuts to an unknown extra seemingly zombified and eating intestines from a dumpster. Four more zombies are seen, and the group soon spot the band performing and make their way over.

The creatures arrive at the performance, and the crowd are soon attacked, with graphic yet somewhat slapstick depictions of limbs being ripped off and internal organs being pulled out. One of the crowd extras is none other than Dave Grohl’s daughter, Harper Grohl.

Of note is that the band, their instruments and the extras playing crowd members are almost entirely white. This may have been in part a reference to Foo Fighters’ very first music video, ‘I’ll Stick Around, where the band were similarly all in white, albeit with non-white instruments on that occasion. It also seems to have been to give a literal blank canvas for the band and everything to be covered in fake blood by the end of the video.

For whatever reason, whilst the band get covered in the remains of the crowd, they are never attacked directly and continue playing the song throughout.

The video has heavy post-processing effects, making it appear like a 1980s era broadcast video with red and green interference lines across the screen. It also utilises very fast camera cuts and occasional freeze frames.

The Lemmy Kilmister mural on the wall of Studio 606 is visible clearly throughout the video.

It was given a live premiere on April 30th, 2026.
