The music video for DOA was directed by Michael Palmieri and features the surreal concept of the world the band are in gradually rotating. There were two primary shoots for the video, the first being scenes on and around a train. Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins both appeared as staff working the train whilst Nate Mendel and Chris Shiflett are passengers whilst the world outside them gradually rotates, making their actions increasingly difficult.

The second was a traditional mimed performance shoot which was captured without camera trickery or editing. The band were genuinely strapped into a large box mechanism which gradually rotated until they were completely upside down with the straps holding them in place removed in post production.

There were fifteen takes recorded with the band hanging upside down and whilst they later recounted that they all ended up feeling nauseous, referring to the device as the “barf ball”, they never complained to director Palmieri or asked to stop, getting all the footage that was required.

At one point in the video whilst upside down Dave is struck in the face by a vintage microphone which was hanging from the ceiling. This was a genuine mistake, with Grohl seen smiling wryly immediately afterwards but it was decided to leave it in the final edit. He mentioned in later interviews that it genuinely hurt and left him with a mark near his eye for a time.
