One could argue that every Foo Fighters album is a reaction to the one before it. If But Here We Are was about enduring unimaginable loss, Your Favorite Toy asks a different question: What happens after survival?

Foo Fighters returned with renewed momentum and a fresh dynamic, most notably with the arrival of drummer Ilan Rubin, marking his first studio album with the band. With Ilan came a deliberate shift in energy and a rediscovery of the sounds that invigorated them when they were on their way up: Punk, hardcore, garage rock, and a little sprinkle of metal. They kept production snappy, recording ten tracks in just a few weeks and taking turns in Dave Grohl’s cramped home studio (like Wasting Light, no professional studio could match the DIY vibe of the garage). At the controls was a new producer, Oliver Roman, and a fresh pair of ears turning up the distortion and sharpening their edges. The band dusted off gear that they had never used on Foo Fighters albums before and followed where those sounds led. After years spent resting and nursing their wounds, the band was once again eager to throw open the garage door and wake up the neighborhood.

The album was released on April 24, 2026, led by the title track and preceded by the stand-alone single 'Asking For A Friend'. At just ten songs and coming in at under 40 minutes, Your Favorite Toy wastes little time in making its point and following its instincts. Critics would later describe it as one of the most direct and aggressive records of the band's career.
