Medicine At Midnight

Medicine at Midnight arrived at a crossroads for Foo Fighters. Following the ambitious journey of Concrete and Gold and an era celebrating the band's 25th anniversary, Dave Grohl found himself drawn toward a different challenge: An album built less around raw electric power and more around groove. Foo Fighters would make people dance.

The band convened at their Studio 606 headquarters, with producer Greg Kurstin returning for a second collaboration. Rather than build the walls of guitars that had become their trademark, the focus shifted toward infectious hooks and finding their swagger. It was a chance to play and stretch familiar muscles in unfamiliar ways.

The album's production was interrupted by a world that suddenly ground to a halt and became much smaller. Originally slated for release in 2020, Medicine at Midnight was put on pause, along with touring plans that would have seen them embark on a Van Tour and retrace many of the steps taken on their first dates in 1995.

When the record finally emerged, it emphasised a group still willing to challenge itself more than two decades in. The album was released on February 5, 2021, led by the single 'Shame Shame', which debuted during the band's appearance on Saturday Night Live. Medicine at Midnight became Foo Fighters' tenth studio album and earned them a Grammy for Best Rock Album.
