Bio
Franz Stahl stepped in as replacement for Pat Smear during an early transitional phase for the band in 1997. Having known Dave for several years starting with their work together in hardcore. punk band Scream, his recruitment was a natural choice. During his time touring with Foo Fighters, he became known not just for the strength of his guitar playing, but also for elevating the standard of backing vocals. Franz began contributing to early writing for the band’s third studio album There Is Nothing Left To Lose, but creative differences led to his dismissal in 1999, to be replaced by Chris Shiflett.
Franz can be heard on the 1998 re-recording of ‘Walking After You’ for the X-Files film, as well as its B-side and deep cut fan fave ‘A320’.
Outside of Foo Fighters and Scream, Franz is best known for his tenure with the band Wool, as well as composing music for film and television.
