William Goldsmith

Bio

William Goldsmith joined Foo Fighters as a founding member in 1994 alongside his Sunny Day Real Estate bandmate Nate Mendel. His heavy-hitting energy grabbed Dave Grohl’s attention and defined their early performances as Foo Fighters evolved from a one-man-band to a fully-fledged ensemble.

His drumming is preserved on songs like ‘Doll’, the first half of ‘Up In Arms’, and the band’s cover of Gary Numan’s ‘Down in the Park’. However, a demanding production cycle on their sophomore album and the percussion tracks being re-recorded led to William’s departure, to be replaced by Taylor Hawkins.

William remains a highly respected figure among drumming peers and indie fans, with his ongoing work in Sunny Day Real Estate, as well as the bands The Fire Theft and Assertion.
