Pat Smear is a founding member of Foo Fighters and their secret weapon, deploying sunshine in the form of his smiles as much as menacing, gnarly guitar stylings. Already enjoying legendary status from his pioneering days with Germs and his stint as Nirvana’s touring guitarist, Pat was recruited by Dave as a natural choice to establish Foo Fighters’ hard rock/post-grunge presence.
Although Pat initially left the band in 1997, he never went too far. When Foo Fighters performed at KROQ's Acoustic Christmas show in 1999, Pat reunited to play with them on 'Stacked Actors'. He rejoined first in early 2006 as part of an extended live touring lineup during Foo Fighters' acoustic tour, also guesting during recording on the band's sixth studio album Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, contributing a guitar track on the song 'Let It Die'. He continued on as a touring member before being reinstated as a full Foo Fighter just in time to contribute fully to Wasting Light in 2011.
Pat has released two solo albums, Ruthensmear and So You Fell In Love With A Musician…, as well as continuing to show up in session work. Pat also earned numerous TV and film credits throughout the 1980’s, and famously appeared in the video for Prince’s ‘Raspberry Beret’.
