Foo Fighters' Other Voices episode debuts with 'A320' and 'Of All People' featured

Dingle, Ireland. Population: approx. 1700. St James Church: Capacity approx 80. Of all the places you'd expect to see Foo Fighters, a tiny Church in an equally tiny town in Ireland is not likely to be high on the list of guesses for a band that regularly headlines huge stadiums around the world as they head into their 31st year as a band.

Said church has since 2002 been the venue for Other Voices, an Irish Television series which champions both up and coming local artists and also brings well-known established acts from around the world to the intimate setting. Artists to have graced the tiny stage in that time include Damien Rice, Amy Winehouse, Willie Nelson, Sinead 'O Connor and Ellie Goulding among countless others.

Foo Fighters, though, are arguably the biggest existing act to ever appear on the show in it's near 25 year history. "It was a real privilege and delight to welcome Foo Fighters and their magnificent crew to The Church Of St James in Dingle" said Other Voices founder Philip King. "It was a brilliant, moving and passionate  performance. It was a wonderful musical gift; it was the smallest stadium gig in the world. This was a singular moment in the history and story of Other Voices, and a truly unforgettable way to herald this significant anniversary year, celebrating 25 years of the show.“ he continued.

Getting a request from the band to appear came as a surprise to the creators of the show as much as anyone else but fans of the band will know that Ireland, and the County Kerry area specifically has a special meaning to frontman Dave Grohl. He first visited the area during his time with Nirvana and returned again in the summer of 1994 following the death of Kurt Cobain.

Wanting to escape the scrutiny and general "noise" surrounding the tragic events and facing questions around his future the drummer headed to the Kerry area, expecting to be able to essentially disappear into a quiet rural area worlds away from where he left. Driving along the desolate roads he slowed as he approached a hitchiker and was taken aback to see the young teenager was wearing a t-shirt adorned with Kurt's face.

"There was Kurt's face staring back at me, almost as a reminder that no matter how far I ran, I could never escape the past" Dave recalled in his 2021 autobiography 'The Storyteller'. He went on to describe the moment as one that "changed everything" as he came to the realisation that continuing on a musician was his only way forward.

Dave himself had told the story several times over the years but it again went viral in 2024 when the hitchiker himself recounted the story on social media. Lorcan Dunne, a now 45-year old stone carver who still lives locally took to X to post a video explaining what he recalled of the event as well as sharing an image of himself wearing the said shirt.

And so it came to be, on Sunday February 22nd 2026, Foo Fighters took to the St James' stage in Dingle in front of less than 100 lucky attendees. Tickets were not made public for the show, the crowd made up of friends of the show, music industry veterans and a few other friends of friends.

Whilst the full set ran for approximately 70 minutes the broadcast after commercials was cut back to 53 minutes and so naturally cuts were made - 'The Pretender', 'Learn To Fly' and 'Best Of You' all left on the editing room floor.

That of course means the opening track of the set, 'A320', did make it to broadcast. At the time of the performance it was only the third time in history the band had played the song and with this broadcast it was the first of the three to have a professional shot video. The second performance way back in 1999 was broadcast on Swedish radio.

The set primarily served as promotion for the upcoming release of the bands twelfth studio album 'Your Favourite Toy' and the title track was also included in the broadcast alongside 'Of All People'.
