Artist in residence - watch a Foo Fighters retrospective from Maida Vale Studios with BBC 6 Music

This week (June 29) Foo Fighters are the "Artist In Residence" at BBC 6 Music in the UK, a series the broadcaster describes as "a journey into the musical soul of an artist, based around a theme or mood. Each episode finds the host playing records that have informed specific periods of their life."

Indeed, four radio episodes have been uploaded doing just that, with three band members exploring a different topic. Dave Grohl gets two episodes with the first being called "For The Drive", perhaps unsurprisingly a series of tracks he deems perfect for a long drive. Tracks featured includes 'Numbers' by Kraftwerk, 'Never Say Never' by Romeo Void and 'Do It' by Pink Fairies, a track Foo Fighters have been jamming on in their own recent live shows.

His second episode entitled "Growing Up In Virginia" is again pretty self explanatory in content as the frontman selects tracks which remind him of his upbringing in Virginia. Tracks in this one include many 60s and 70s classics including 'Baker Street' by Gerry Rafferty, Carly Simon's 'You're So Vain' and 'Something' by The Beatles.

Chris Shiflett takes the next episode with "80s High School in Santa Barbara", a rewind of songs he grew up with during his high school days. There is an eclectic mix here with tracks from Adam And The Ants, The B-52s, Yazoo and Ramones.

The final episode is headed by Nate Mendel and features a slightly different approach, the bassist asking "Why doesn't everybody love these songs?". His playlist runs through a series of tracks he believes everyone should love. Another playlist with variety tracks featured are 'Nosferatu Man' by Slint, 'Death' by White Lies and 'Mustard' by Latin Playboys. Nate is also the only one of the band to throw in one of their own songs, 'Your Favorite Toy' included on his list.

As well as the four audio shows there is also a special retrospective video special which sees the band sit down at Maida Vale Studios in London. Recorded in April shortly before their appearance on Saturday Night Live UK the video sees Dave, Chris, Pat and Nate look back to their history at the studio as well as a dive into two tracks from their latest album.

It's not mentioned why Rami and Ilan were not present.
